Almerimar resort


Almerimar is not just a port, it is an oasis arisen from a barren zone, incomparable and wild beauty. Almerimar has been designed with tourists in mind and integrates with the natural surroundings.

Immersed in the heart of the Costa Almeria – in the district of the Ejido, approximately 30 kms from the capital Almeria. It is surrounded by a plastic sea of greenhouses which supply Europe with some of it’s finest horticulture.

Almerimar has all the services a tourist could wish for. It has restaurants, hotels, pubs, supermarkets, stores, laundry, discos, medical aid, etc.

The Costa de Almeria region

The province of Almeria, situated in the south east of the Spanish peninsula, is bordered with the provinces of Granada and Murcia. It covers 8774 square kilometres with a population of 425,000 inhabitants, 145,000 of which live in the capital city, Almeria.

This province is the hottest in Andalucia with an average of more than 3,100 hours of annual sunshine, lasting from well before Easter into November. This is particularly noticeable in the area around Nijar. As the weather is so good Europe’s most powerful telescope has been installed here, on the outskirts of the small town of Gergal, along with a most important solar energy plant.

The natural protection of the mountain range of the Sierra de Gador also has resulted in the Almeria province being one of the most productive agricultural zones in Europe. It has more than 10,000 hectares of flowers and garden produce, much of it cultivated under plastic with a production volume of some 250 million kilos, 80% of which is exported with an estimated value of 22,000 million pesetas. Marble is another of Almeria’s major export products and is famed for its luminous, unblemished appearance.

Almerimar area

Almerimar is situated in the province of Almería, lt’s only two hours from the snows of Sierra-Nevada. Almerimar has a Port-Marina and a fishing harbour.

More people each year are discovering the beaches, the sun and the natural beauty of this area.

If you are looking for a relaxed way of life, free from stress, in a healthy environment, then Almerimar is for you.

Almerimar has an 27 hole course. The club has all necessary facilities, such as the hire of clubs, golf buggies and a shop. A new club house is currentlt being built (right opposite our apartment).

Water sports for the sports enthusiast there are excellent activities available. You can practice all kinds of aquatic sports such as wind-surfing, swimming, fishing, diving, boating and yachting.

As Almerimar is only two hours from the snows of Sierra Nevada it is possible to go skiing in the morning then return to soak up the sun on the beach in the afternoon.

Almeria’s climate is subtropical Mediterranean, warm and dry, and holds the title of being the Andalucian city with the most hours of sun a year, a total of over 3,100. It also has many coastal resorts for you to choose from for your holiday destination including Roquetas de Mar which is a short drive away from Almerimar.

Places of interest near Almerimar

Las Salinas salt flats, Las Almoladeras bird sanctuary, Cabo de Gata lighthouse, Old gold mines in Rodalquilar, The Cortijo del Fraile The Huerbo fortress.

Sorbas town of Iberian Origin situated above a Tributary of the rio de aguas, which its houses overhang. There is a reception centre for visitors to visit the rural tourism adventure caves.

At the nearby Tabernas desert you can visit the Mini Hollywood which was used as the location for the filming of many spaghetti western movies. Many of the film sets have been preserved and are opened for visitors.


Malaga is about 200 Km to the west and the journey to the airport by car currently takes around 2.5 hours. Almeria Airport is 45 minutes to the east and is now served by EasyJet and Ryanair. The Ancient City of Almeria is about 35 minutes away. Murcia is 3 hours to the east. For a real adventure you can reach Almerimar from the ferry at Santander in the north in around 12 hours with breaks. Alternatively, make this drive really relaxing and get to know the real Spain.

The marina area is the focus for all the local shops and the supermarket. There are also banks, car rental shops and a good sprinkling of other retail therapy opportunities. There is also a wide variety of restaurants to suit your mood from good value tasty spanish cuisine through seafood, chinese, italian to gourmet food served in great surroundings overlooking the water.

A luxurious 1 bedroom, 1 reception room, 1 bathroom spacious apartment. Modern fully fitted kitchen and a very generous terrace to appreciate the fantastic views on offer.

The residential complex is surrounded by a secure private area with Swimming pools set within beautiful landscaped gardens.

Located adjacent to the Marina in Almerimar (the second largest in Spain) and at only stones throw from the beach there are excellent facilities on your doorstep with many restaurants, bars & shops surrounding the port.

Almerimar infrastructure is all in place and the amenities include a supermarket, private schools, doctors surgery, beaches, cafés, restaurants and of course an array of tapas bars.

Locally (only 7mins by car) there is a ‘Centro Commercial’ with a hypermarket, multi-screen cinema, children’s play area and more restaurants. This is in fact located opposite the main hospital with all modern facilities.

Generally the town attracts a fairly affluent visitor. The town has a lovely mix between many nationalities from most European Countries with the local Spanish having the greatest influence.There is a real feeling of community and with little or no segregation, mingling with the locals is automatic.

Projects currently under development in Almerimar include the refurbishment of the Almerimar Golf 5 Star Hotel including 1000m2 Spa Centre. This is almost opposite our apartment. The Porto Fino development of which our apartment is part will include a commercial area of some 6000m2 which will include a variety of modern shops. There are also council offices and a police station.

Future developments are also impressive which involve careful future planning to ensure the existing natural beauty is not lost and residential areas not overcrowded. Areas or zones have been allocated certain characteristics and specific restrictions by the Mayors office to guarantee future capital growth for the area. Due west of Almerimar is an area zoned for development which will acquire the name “Ensenada de San Miguel”, this will adjoin the new Almerimar Lago location. Further infrastructure will increase as planned with even an Olympic sized rowing canal plus two further 18 hole golf courses along the coast.
